MINI is looking to capture more market share here in America with its next-generation model, rumored to feature a five-door hatch variant offering more practicality for a modern family.
Currently one of the biggest gripes consumers have about MINI models is its lack of interior space. Generally speaking, MINI models simply aren’t practical for even a small family, but the British automaker is hoping to change that entirely with a five-door hatchback, sporting two smaller opening doors.
Think of it as a Countryman, but smaller. Despite the rear doors being smaller than a conventional sedan, they’ll still be usable and the new MINI will sport four door handles. More importantly though, we can expect rear legroom to increase by almost 2 inches compared to the hardtop model, and chances are a three-person bench seat will be offered as standard.
The four-door MINI model will complement the popular two-door hatchback, but will offer a less SUV-esque design than the Countryman model. Will it be a hit? Only time will tell, but it’s certainly the direction that MINI needs to go to gain more ground with potential buyers.
